Nigeria: Catholic priest killed on Christmas eve to be laid to rest, Friday.

Fr. Luke was shot dead as he made his way home after celebrating Holy Mass on Christmas Eve in the Diocese of Abeokuta.

Fr. Luke Mewhenu Adeleke celebrated Christmas Eve at Ogunmakin, an outstation of St. Anthony Ijemo-Fadipe parish, Diocese of Abeokuta, Obafemi-Owode Local Government area.

Abeokuta is the state capital of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria.

On his way back to the main parish, Fr Luke was waylaid by some “unknown gunmen” who killed him. Reports say the area has become infamous and notorious for gangs perpetrating all manner of criminal activities.

According to Agenzia Fides, Fr. Luke, 38, was ordained a priest on 19 August 2017.

His burial will take place Friday at Onikoko, Abeokuta. It will be preceded by Holy Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral.
