Ugandan Bishop of Kasese Diocese prepares the faithful for Lent.
Peter Masereka – Kasese, Uganda.
Presiding over the Holy Eucharist at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral, this week, Bishop Kibira reminded Christians of their role as channels of God's mercy and the protection of those they consider enemies.
Do not seek revenge when persecuted
The Bishop asked the followers of Christ to assist those in sin and to repent of their own failings. The faithful, said the Kasese prelate, must avoid judging others and instead be the light of Christ.
Bishop Kibira further reminded Christians to be ready for persecution even when they do good. He gave the example of Christ, who resisted and never gave up on his mission to save the world.
Bishop Kibira also warned the faithful against seeking revenge. He urged them instead to carry their burdens to God in prayer.
Be champions of reconciliation
On the same day, at St. John Kisanga Parish, Fr. Augustine Masereka, the Director of Catholic Kasese Guide Radio warned believers not to be driven by pride and selfishness. Christians, he said, need to be rich in the spirit by focusing their attention on things that will obtain them salvation.
Fr. Augustine urged the faithful to be champions of peace, unity and reconciliation in extending love and prayers for their enemies. He said forgiveness releases a person from the scars of hate.
