Pope sends message to Italian Caritas convention

Pope Francis urges participants to become 'apostles of charity' to those on the margins of society

Pope Francis has sent greetings to the 40th national convention of Italy’s diocesan Caritas groups, urging them to step up their commitment to the poorest and most marginalized people.

In the letter signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Pope recalls the first two presidents of the Italian Caritas network, who, he said, enriched the Church with a heritage that continues to bear “authentic fruits of charity and mercy” today.

In the message the Pope says he hopes the meeting, taking place in Abano Terme from April 16th to 19th, will inspire participants to become “apostles of charity” to those on the margins of society.

Looking ahead to the forthcoming Synod of Bishops in October, the convention is discussing the theme ‘Young is….#asharingcommunity’
