Synod of Bishops: Youth and the elderly to meet with Pope Francis

A book launch and an event that will see Pope Francis in dialogue with the elderly and the young are planned to coincide with the Synod of Bishops.

By Alessandro Gisotti

“The Wisdom of Time” is a global event aimed at creating important connections between the generations. A new publication will be presented at Rome’s Augustinian University on October 23rd and is timed to coincide with the Synod of Bishops dedicated to Young People. "To walk towards the future we need the past, we need deep roots, we need memory, we need courage,” says Pope Francis. He often repeats his vision of the world as one “that lives a new embrace between the young and the old".

Young and old in dialogue with the Pope

The Pope will attend the book presentation, an event that will see different generations coming together from all over the world. Among those present will be the Archbishop of Panama, José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta, President of the Organizing Committee for World Youth Day 2019; and Fr Antonio Spadaro, SJ, Director of La Civiltà Cattolica. According to the organizers, the event is “the celebration of a project born from an inspiration of the Pope,” who constantly reminds us how important it is to build relationships among the different generations.

A compendium of stories

The new publication is a collection of 250 interviews from over 30 countries. It is the result of a collaborative effort between the non-profit organization “Unbound,” and a group of publishing houses coordinated by Loyola Press.

The book is being published simultaneously in the United States and Italy, in a variety of different languages. It brings together a wide selection of stories that include comments by Pope Francis, in dialogue with Fr Spadaro.
