Pope Francis arrives in Malta
Pope Francis arrived in Malta on Saturday morning for his 36 visit abroad and his first journey of 2022. His two day visit and pilgrimage to the Mediterranean island will follow in the footsteps of St. Paul and focus on themes of evangelization and the need to welcome, protect and integrate migrants and refugees.

Pope Francis has arrived in Malta on the the Papal ITA Airways plane carrying him, various members of the Curia, and 74 journalists that departed earlier Saturday morning from Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
This Apostolic Journey to Malta represents the Pope’s 36th visit abroad and is his first journey of 2022, a visit twice postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
