Cardinal Parolin admitted to Gemelli hospital for scheduled surgery

The Vatican Secretary of State will undergo an operation for a prostatic hypertrophy, and is expected to leave hospital in a few days.

The Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, was admitted Tuesday afternoon to Rome's Gemelli University Policlinic.

The news was confirmed by the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, responding to the questions posed by journalists.

Bruni said the Cardinal "was admitted today to the Agostino Gemelli Policlinic to undergo a scheduled surgical procedure for a prostatic hypertrophy. It is expected that in a few days he should be able to leave the hospital and gradually resume his work."
