Pope invites Curia to organize private Lenten Spiritual Exercises

The annual Lenten retreat for the Roman Curia is scheduled for 21 – 26 February 2021. This year, however, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, those normally invited to take part will not be able to gather together in person.

“Given the persistence of the current health emergency,” the Holy See Press Office said in a statement on Wednesday, “this year it will not be possible to have the Spiritual Exercises of the Roman Curia communally at the Casa Divin Maestro in Ariccia.”

Pope Francis, therefore, has invited the Heads of Dicasteries and the Superiors of the Roman Curia to “make their own arrangements, withdrawing in prayer” during the first week of Lent.

During the period of the Spiritual Exercises, all of the Holy Father’s engagements, including the General Audience on Wednesday 24 February, are suspended.
