By Vatican News
The Dicastery for Culture and Education, according to “Praedicate Evangelium” n. 153, “"works for the development of human values in people within the horizon of Christian anthropology, contributing to the full realization of the following of Jesus Christ."
This Dicastery, the Constitution specifies, “is made up of the Section for Culture, dedicated to the promotion of culture, pastoral animation and the enhancement of the cultural heritage; and the Section for Education, which develops the fundamental principles of education with reference to schools, Catholic and ecclesiastical Institutes of Higher Studies and Research and is the competent authority for hierarchical appeals in these matters." (A provisory English-language translation)
The new Dicastery merges the former Congregation for Catholic Education and the Pontifical Council for Culture.
