Synod: An exercise in hope

As the Synod on Synodality enters a new phase, we bring you the fourth in a series of videos to explore how the continental phase is being prepared, following the completion of documents from the diocesan and national levels.

Experts from 5 continents - with various competencies and perspectives - are meeting until 2 October in the Italian city of Frascati, near Rome, to elaborate the Document of the second stage of the synodal process 2021-2023, known as the continental stage of the Synod, and thus continue the process of discernment, dialogue and listening.

In collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Synod, David Costa, a young videographer from Costa Rica, explores the unprecedented experience of the General Secretariat of the Synod, and offers a series of videos throughout this preparatory phase.

A Church on the move

In this fourth video, we hear from Monsignor Piero Coda, Secretary of the Pontifical International Theological Commission, Father Thomas Kollamparampil, C.M.I., Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum, Dharmaran Vidiya Ksheteram in Bangalore, and Sister Nathalie Becquart, Undersecretary of the General Secretariat of the Synod, to explore how the syntheses examined bear witness to the image of a Church on the move in constant evolution, a living body of Christ where unity respects diversity. The synod is an exercise in hope and the ongoing discussions reflect the need for a more welcoming, merciful, intercultural and prophetic Church.
