Panama WYD 2019: A faith and cultural encounter

The Angolans have been divided into various groups so that different teams will take turns in leading and animating liturgical, religious, cultural and social activities. They also carried with them various traditional attire, typical of Angola, as well as foods from their country for presenting and sharing during cultural events.

Director of the national office for the Youth Pastoral Ministry at the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé, Father Armando Pinho Alberto said that the young people were eager to share their faith and to represent their country with pride.

Young people experience the universality of the Church

World Youth Day (WYD) is a meeting of young people from around the world with the Pope. It is celebrated every three years in a different country and continent. The last World Youth Day event was held in Poland, 2016.

World Youth Day events allow young people to experience the universality of the Church and to share their faith in Jesus Christ with other young persons.

During the week, young people engage in prayer, vibrant liturgies and Catechism lessons with Bishops from around the world.  Since this is a gathering of young people, there are usually concerts, a vigil and a closing Mass with the Pope.
