Vatican Radio's English Africa Service Webinar on YouTube Live-stream

The Webinar commemorating 70 years of Vatican Radio’s English language transmissions, to Africa, will be carried Live on the Vatican News YouTube channel, 17 July 2020, at 2 pm – 4 pm, Rome time.

All is set for Friday’s English Africa Service Webinar, with the theme, “Story-telling as a tool to manage racial and social tribulations in Africa.” The virtual forum will bring together Catholic Communicators in Africa for a two-hour virtual forum.

Fr. Federico Lombardi

The Holy See’ Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, Dr Paolo Ruffini, will grace the Webinar and make a Keynote address. Former Vatican Radio Director-General, Fr. Federico Lombardi who is now the President of the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI-Vatican Foundation will speak about Vatican Radio and Africa over the years.

Bishop Emmanuel Badejo

Other key presenters in the Webinar event include Bishop Emmanuel Badejo of Oyo Diocese, Nigeria. Bishop Badejo is the President of the Pan Africa Episcopal Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS). He will speak on the topic, “Master Weavers of African Stories – Promoting everyday heroes as solutions to Africa Challenges."

Mother Mary Claude Oguh

Mother Mary Claude Oguh, Superior General of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ and President of the Nigerian Conference of Women Religious, will speak of the Witness of Nigeria’s women religious working in some of the  country’s challenging environments

Ms Sheila Pires

Ms Sheila Pires, who works with Radio Veritas in South Africa and collaborates with Vatican Radio’s English Africa Service will also give her testimony. She will reflect on the meaning of the now global phenomenon of #Black Lives Matter in the context of South Africa.

Fr. Prof. Walter C. Ihejirika

The Closing Remarks will be made by Fr. Prof. Walter Ihejirika, the current President of SIGNIS-Africa. He is a Professor of Development Communication & Media Studies at Nigeria’s University of Port Harcourt.
