Cabo Verde: Ad limina visit was an opportunity for us to recharge for the mission.

Speaking to Vatican News on Wed, Cardinal Arlindo Gomes Furtado, the Bishop of the Diocese of Santiago, together with Bishop Ildo Fortes of the Diocese of Mindelo in Cabo Verde, both said their visit to the Vatican had been fruitful. They were returning to their county with a feeling of having recharged their batteries and were now ready to face their mission as shepherds with joy and hope.

The Bishops feel they are returning to Cabo Verde with new energy, and a sense of belonging to a multifaceted but united Church. They are renewed in the synodal approach and are ready to make evangelization more efficient.

The ad limina visit

Senegal, Mauritania, Cabo Verde, and Guinea Bissau do not have a separate episcopal conferences. They form one episcopal conference.

An ad limina visit is determined by the Pope and is made by Bishops of the Church to the Vatican, ideally every five years. During the visit, the Bishops pray at the tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul and present reports to the Pope about the state of their dioceses.
