Pope Francis appoints three new Apostolic Nuncios

Pope Francis on Tuesday appointed three new Apostolic Nuncios.
According to the Code of Canon law 364, a nuncio’s chief task is to strengthen bonds between the Holy See and any local church. A nuncio is often referred to as an “ambassador,” representing the Church in a foreign country or in an international institution such as the United Nations.
Msgr Antoine Camilleri
Monsignor Antoine Camilleri has been serving up until now as Undersecretary for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State. He has been appointed as titular archbishop of Skálholt, in Iceland, and at the same time entrusted with the office of Apostolic Nuncio.
Born in Sliema (Malta) on 20 August 1965, Camilleri was ordained a priest on 5 July 1991 and incardinated in Malta. He graduated in Law and Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 9 January 1999 and worked at the Pontifical Representations in Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Cuba and at the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State. On 22 February 2013, he was appointed Undersecretary of the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State. He is fluent in seven languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Romanian and Russian.
Msgr Paolo Rudelli
Paolo Rudelli was born in Gazzaniga (Italy) on 16 July 1970. Ordained a priest on 10 June 1995, he was incardinated in the northern Italian city of Bergamo. He holds a license in Canon Law and a degree in Moral Theology. Having entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 2001, Rudelli worked in the Pontifical Representations in Ecuador and Poland and in the General Affairs Section of the Secretariat of State. He speaks five languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish and Polish.
Msgr Paolo Borgia
Finally, Pope Francis has appointed as titular Archbishop of Milazzo, Italy, Paolo Borgia, currently assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, at the same time entrusting to him the office of apostolic nuncio.
New nuncio, Paolo Borgia was born in Manfredonia (Foggia) on 18 March 1966. He was ordained a priest on 10 April, 1999 and incardinated in Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo in southern Italy. He graduated in Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 December 2001 and worked in the Pontifical Representations in the Central African Republic, Mexico, Israel and Lebanon; in the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State and in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State. On 4 March 2016, Borgia was appointed assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State on 4 March 2016. The languages he speaks are Italian, English, Spanish and French.
