Pope Francis names new Bishop for Paterson, USA

The Holy See announced on Wednesday that Father Kevin J Sweeney, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, has been named as the new Bishop of Paterson New Jersey. He succeeds Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli, whose resignation has been accepted by Pope Francis.
Father Sweeney has been serving as Vicar Forane of Brooklyn 8 Deanery, and Pastor of the St Michael Parish in Brooklyn.
Curriculum vitae of Father Kevin J. Sweeney
Kevin Sweeney was born on 17 January 1970 in Elmhust, Queens, in the Diocese of Brooklyn. He attended Cathedral Preparatory Seminary High School and Cathedral Seminary Residence in Douglaston, and obtained his Baccalaureate at Saint John's University in Queens. He completed his ecclesiastical studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York.
He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn on 28 June 1997.
Since his priestly ordination, Father Sweeney has undertaken the following assignments: Parochial Vicar of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish in Jamaica (1997-2003), and of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Corona (2003-2004); Coordinator of the Apostolate for the Irish (1999-2001); Director of the Office of Vocations (2004-2010); Chaplain at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn (2005); Administrator, then Pastor, of St. Michael Parish in Brooklyn (since 2010); Spiritual Director of the Jovenes de Valor (2010-2013); Member of the Presbyteral Council (2011-2016), Priest Personnel Assignment Board (since 2017), and Seminary Admissions Board (since 2010); Brooklyn 8 Deanery Vicar (since 2013); and Representative of the Vocations Office (since 2014).
