Pope nominates Extraordinary Commissioner for Basilica of Saint Mary Major

In order to respond to the particular complexities of the economic and financial management of the Chapter of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, exacerbated by the spread of the pandemic, the Holy Father today appointed Msgr. Rolandas Makrickas, until now in service in the First Section - General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, as extraordinary commissioner, donec aliter provideatur, with responsibility for the economic management of the Chapter's assets.

The extraordinary commissioner will be assisted in this task by a Commission composed of representatives of A.P.S.A., the Governorate of Vatican City State and the Secretariat for the Economy.

The Chapter, under the guidance of the Archpriest, will continue its role of carrying out all the liturgical functions and promoting the pastoral activity of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in order to encourage the active participation of and care for the faithful.
