Israel continues Gaza hospital raid
By Nathan Morley
Israel is under pressure to prove its claim that Hamas has a command centre underneath or near the hospital. Showing correspondents around the facility, they said they’d found machine guns and body armour hidden behind medical scanners.
The army is now searching the rest of the complex for the underground tunnels they say lay beneath Al Shifa.
UN Security Council
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has passed a resolution from Malta calling for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses in the fighting in Gaza. It says the pauses could last for days for the delivery of aid.
It’s the first time the Security Council has managed to agree to such a call since Israel began its bombardment in response to the killing by Hamas on October 7.
Just a few days ago, the UN Secretary-General warned that Gaza was becoming a graveyard for children.
Israel began striking Gaza after Hamas's 7 October attacks, in which 1,200 people were killed and over 200 hostages were taken.
The Hamas-run health ministry says over 11,500 people have been killed in Gaza since the conflict erupted.
